On this holiday, the Jewish people celebrate their miraculous survival from the evil edict proposed by Haman in the Persian Empire some 2500 years ago. On Purim, we are obligated to perform four mitzvot (commandments), two of them are related to help those who are in need.
Mishloach manot and Matanat laevyonim: the first one obliges us to send a minimum of two foods to our friends, the second mitzvah is about helping those who have little or nothing.
Similar to our Hanukkah charity drive, we launch our Purim charity campaign this year. We are collecting contributions to help the needy of our community, 3 families on the countryside and 2 in Budapest.
